Star Wars was an epic science fiction trilogy first
created by George Lucas during the 1970s and significantly expanded
since that time. The first film in the trilogy was titled Star Wars,
Episode IV A New Hope, hinting at sequels and prequels. Star
Wars was released on May 25, 1977 by 20th Century Fox, and became a
worldwide sci-fi and movie phenomenon, followed by two very popular
sequels. Twenty-two years after the first Star Wars movie was
released, Lucas began the release of a second trilogy, the long awaited
prequel to the original trilogy.
Setting
Star Wars events and story line take place in a fictional
galaxy. Many species of alien creatures (often humanoid) are depicted.
Robots (droids) are also omnipresent and are generally built to serve
their masters. Space travel is of the norm, and most planets in the
imaginary galaxy are part of the Galactic Republic, later reformed as
the Galactic Empire.
One of the recurring aspects of Star Wars is the "Force",
which is an energy form which can be utilised by certain characters who
are prone to have varying degrees of inborn skill in that force. The
Force can be used for good, but it also has a dark side that can instill
users with hatred and dark deeds. The 6 parts always feature the Jedi
Knights, who use the good side of the Force, and the evil
Sith, who
use the dark side in order to take over the galaxy.
