The original
musketeers were early French and other European infantry soldiers who
carried a musket, which was the early equivalent of a rifle. This was around
about the time of the 17th Century.
Decades later, in
1844, Alexander Dumas started his famous serial publication called "The
Three Musketeers" in the French magazine Le Siècle. The story is about a
young man called D'Artagnan who arrives in Paris to join the Musketeers Of
The Guard. He makes friends with The Three Musketeers of the story title,
who are Athos, Aramis and Porthos - they live by their motto "All For One,
One For All". The story tells of various intrigues and murders that they are
witness to and help resolve. Ironically, the Three Musketeers in the story
are more linked to sword fighting than to use of muskets.
The classic
costumes of the Three Musketeers usually includes the fleur-de-lis, a French
monarchy heraldic symbol, which is a depiction of the lily flower and a
well-known symbol of France.
This ladies
version, the lady musketeer costume, also includes the fleur-de-lis symbol,
and is ideal as an historical fancy dress costume, or even a stunning
glamorous and sexy outfit.
