The first
Female police officer in England was Sofia Stanley. She joined The
Metropolitan Police in 1919. She also designed the first woman's police
uniform, calling it the Stanley uniform.
Like today,
the woman's police hat (WPC hat) was a completely different shape from the
male police officer's hat.
Initially
female police officers were usually seconded to the Criminal Investigation
Department - until 1921 when Lilian Wyles became the first woman police
officer to be appointed as an Inspector at the CID.
This WPC hat
is ideal for themes such as uniform, 999 or cops and robbers theme.
