Trivia The member of Village People in the seventies who played the construction worker was initially Mark Mussler (1977) but he was replaced by the longer standing member David Hodo (1978-1982). The band were originally formed in 1977 to cater for the gay audience of the discos, dressing up as macho American cultural stereotypes in fancy dress type costumes which included Cowboy, Native American Indian, Motorcycle Cop, Construction Worker and Leather Man. The idea for the band came from Jacques Morali who teamed up with Henri Belolo. After having success with Victor Willis and a few dancers, they decided to form a permanent Village People band, so they took out an advert in a music trade magazine which read: "Macho Types Wanted: Must Dance And Have A Moustache."[ Their hits include "Macho Man", "Go West", "San Francisco (You've Got Me"), "In The Navy" and "Y.M.C.A.".
