The1960's
fashion icon Yves Saint Laurent got the idea of a pattern of large,
different coloured panels (colour blocks) as a design for the shift
dresses that were all the rage in those days, inspired by the then current
"Mondrian" style of 60's
painting art. From this idea he went on to creat his classic Mondrian dress.
This idea was soon copied by other designers - the block panel style dress
then becoming a 60s fashion iconic dress.
The original
mondrian dress used the colours white, red, blue, yellow and black. Later
copies had other combinations of colour, this particular one being black
and fuschia.
