was born Elvis Aaron Presley on January 8th 1935 in Tupelo, Mississippi,
USA.
He helped to bring
the sound of African American music to a wider audience, starting in 1954 at
Sun Records.
He was one of the
originators of the Rockabilly sound, and the biggest solo artist of the Rock
and Roll era.
His hip swaying
dance moves earned him the name "Elvis the Pelvis" and his stage shows in
Las Vegas became legendary. Here he would wear his flamboyant stage suits,
which were heavily jewelled.
